Sorry the image is a little blurry. If your having trouble reading the article click here
The article above has some very interesting information in it. It states that “Rev. Fuller’s will, which may have the only written documentation of the intended purpose of the park, was supposedly lost in a fire, also considered mysterious at the time”. The article also goes onto say “{Fuller Park} joins other perhaps less known mysteries, such as legends of a network of underground tunnels beneath the city”

The Fullers didn’t have any children.

I heard that they did indeed have a son, but he died when he was a baby. One of my friends saw the son’s grave, it’s small though.

I’m new to this so bear with me. The Fuller’s tie into the tunnel theory because one of the entrances is supposedly in the park?
I know this must have been already done but I have to ask. Has anyone looked up maps from the time periods? Who owned what and where structures were located so you can rule out possible theories?
If the tunnels were used for the underground railroad there would be other tunnels in surrounding areas heading North. East Texas was the Confederate base during the war. Majority of slaves occupied South Texas up through the Eastern border. The tunnel enterances would also have to be on private property of Unionists. Which to me would be unlikely. We harbored slaves for other states so the slaves could not reach the Union lines. Athens really wouldn’t be a likely place to put a pentagram shaped escape tunnel.

It was no escape tunnel….

Running moonshine- you’d have to look at maps, county records for businesses and property lines, and building plans. The tunnels would connect farms, distillers, underground alcohol sellers… I’d also look at what happened after prohibition, what was built around the enterances? Who sold what property… Also newspapers and arrest records.
What’s happened to the map? What is on it?

If you go to Athens from malakoff on hwy 31, go right on the loop towards 2494 and 59, keep going past the hwy 19 exit, and hang a left on robbins road (may also have a county road number, not sure) Fuller park is on the left side, turn left on the first road you come to and you can go park down behind it at the performing arts center!

What about Frank Larue? Where did you hear that? This is one I can say is not part of the witchcraft. we have been researching this for some time now and this is the first that I have ever heard of him involved with this. My mother is involved with genealogy and have researched our family tree. He is part of it but we have found nothing that ties him to the witchcraft in Henderson County.

I have lived in east Texas most of my life and worked in Athens for several years. I have heard many stories about the witchcraft and how the “higher powers” in the town presently and past used it for their personal gain. In working in the town I became friends with a member of the La Rue family and she did verify that their family was involved even though she denied being involved personally. She did relay several stories of her elder relatives being involved.
